- 1. "on dit.." could mean "we say" or "we said", but it could also be a kind of mild exhortation ("let's say..."). Since I picture her talking to her would-be lover, that's the way I translated it (the fog being a symbol of his hazy memory)

Her titles are always tricky to translate. Here it's a pun on "l'étang / les temps" (the pond / the times).
I suspect the "pond" is a reference to the classic romantic poem "le lac" (the lake) which depicts a passionate love. The pond would be like a cheaper version of the lake, like this ill-fated love story is a cheap version of the exhalted feelings depicted in the poem. Just a theory though.
