Once, In a Garden
I entered once a garden, smelling the roses
Amusing my sad soul and listening to the birdsong
On the branches, I found a nightingale and his mate
Standing with her quietly, it made me happy seeing them
He put his wing around her, nourishing her with tenderness
And from his love for her, he sang her a song of peace
And he said to her, "my angel, anything you need, just ask
My soul and mind are yours, don't ever leave me"
And after a long while drinking from the cup of companionship
He found his beautiful love becoming more teasing
She flew without looking back, and left him suffering1
Poor thing, I felt for him; passion had melted his heart
He stayed up, counting the stars, with the full moon as his witness
His troubles overwhelmed him, how could he endure?
And what tormented him all the more was that his lover now loved another
She worsened his wound; sorrow was his fate, dear thing
I left, aching for him, his situation could move the inanimate to tears
He cherished her love, and she betrayed love's promises
