Translation
I Am Sad
I am sad, I grieve
I, lord Nezahualcoyotl.
With flowers and with songs
I remember the princes,
those who went away,
Tezozomoctzin,
and that one Cuacuauhtzin.
Truly they live,
there Where-in-Someway-One-Exists?
O, that I might follow the princes,
take them, our flowers!
If I could but make mine
the beautiful songs of Tezozomoctzin!
Never will your name perish,
O my lord, you Tezozomoctzin!
Thus longing for your songs,
I am grieving,
alone I have come to remain saddened,
I withdraw from myself.
I have become saddened, I grieve.
No longer you are here, no longer,
but in the region Where-in-Some-Way-One-Exists.
You have left us without sustenance on the earth,
for this I withdraw from myself.
