Do you remember the whole of Broadway
as it was raining?
Do you remember on Malcolm X
under a hat?
Do you remember by the river shore?
I do remember
as if it were
as if never
I do remember
as if nothing more
Do you remember by the river shore?
Do you remember? The weather was nice
under palm trees, it's so late (1)
I do remember
as if it were
as if never
Do you remember ancient times?
Do you remember never again?
Do you remember it's so late?
Do you remember we're so far away?
I do remember
as if it were
as if never
I do remember as if nothing anymore
Do you remember the whole of Broadway
as it was raining?
Do you remember on Malcolm X
under a hat?
Do you remember by the river shore?
I do remember
as if it were
as if never
I do remember
as if nothing anymore
Remember these lovely times
Call me back just for a moment(2)
Generally speaking, the French text contains some purposedly incorrect grammatical constructs, for instance:
"te souviens-tu *sur* Malcolm X" (should be "de"), "te souviens-tu *au* bord de l'eau" (should be "du"), etc.
I tried to carry the same kind of "errors" into the translation.
By the way, the original lyrics are pretty bad. One transcription error and lots of typos. Should be replaced by a better source.
--------------------------------------------
(1) original lyrics error : it's "il est si tard" instead of "et les cytharres"
(2) play on "rappelle toi" (remember) and "rappelle moi" (call me back)
