Translation

Dawn is Coming Near

The cloud is bringing us some rain,
And on our own, on our own we remain.
The rain, the rain, is becoming hail.1
No need to wail, no need to wail.

What has, what has the poor man to fear?
His roof the sky, wherever he may be.
He shoulders saddlebags early,
For the journey, for the journey.

Come on, come on, the sails we'll spread
To reach our dream and to touch the void.
Let life herself dry up every tear.
Dawn is coming near, dawn is coming near.

  • 1. I repeated "the rain" twice in this line although βροχή is used only once in the original because I wanted the translated line to have the same number of syllables as the original line. I did the same in two other places. The Greek original uses such repetition only in the final line of each verse.
