Grimnir - traducción al Inglés

Stanza 45,46 and 54 from Grímnismál(Cloaked Speech) is one of the mythological poems of the Poetic Edda. It is preserved in the Codex Regius manuscript and the AM 748 I 4to. It is spoken through the voice of Grímnir(Cloaked), one of the many guises of the god Odin. The very name suggests guise, or mask or hood. Odin and Frigg argue about the worthiness of their respective wards. Frigg's ward is Agnarr who now lives in a cave with a giantess. Odins warden is Geirroth who has become a great king, Odin mocks Frigg warden for living in the cave. Frigg mocks Odin for a ward infamous for inhospitality, curelty and stinginess. Odin doesnt believe her and goes to investigate. He is taken captive by his own ward while disguised and placed on a burning log for 8 days. On the 9 day the son of the warden offers Odin a drink saying that his father was not right to torture him. Odin then revealed himself for who he was and describes at great length the cosmogony of the worlds, the dwelling places(heavens/dimensions) of its inhabitants, and himself and his many guises.

The Warden then realized the magnitude of his mistake. Having learned that he is undone, he rose quickly to pull Odin from the fires, but the sword which he had lain upon his knee slipped and fell hilt down, so that he impaled himself upon it. Odin then vanished as the son of the dead warden, ruled in his father's stead.
