The rye is green not dry, brown, and gone to seed. The rye is young, growing , vibrant, and abundant. It is near her, her home, yard, and beyond the village. It is her family and in-laws, the oats, that prosper all around her. Her beautiful, fine guests. The generations that surround her. Everything is alive - there's joy!

wouldn't that be zeleniye rather than zelene ye. it seems to make more sense. rye ripens, flowers, turns brown, is then gathered. I wondered about that as well , and the symbolism of the song

Озимую рожь, которая по весне является самым быстрорастущим растением, скашивают зеленой, как корм скоту, чтобы поддержать его после зимы. Раз озимая рожь зеленая и сочная - значит и скот будет крепким, значит год будет урожайным. По тому, какая густая озимая рожь, люди судили о будущем урожае. Поэтому все так радуются, что рожь зеленеет и косят ее на корм, пока она зеленая и сочная. Тут, между прочим, все говорят по-русски. Привет Алекс и Анатолий! ;)
