I have clung to many a "friend"
I have clung to many a "friend"
My only loyal friend is the black earth
I have clung to many a "friend"
I have clung to many a "friend"
My only loyal friend is the black earth
I wondered in vain, exhausted myself for naught
My only loyal friend is the black earth
It's the black earth
I have fallen for many a beauty
I have fallen for many a beauty
Never found fidelity, nor got anything in return
Everything I asked for I got from earth
My only loyal friend is the black earth
It's the black earth
The original piece by Aşık Veysel is longer and really worth checking out. In Turkish culture cremation or embalming isn't really a thing, so when someone dies we bury them sans casket and let the 'black earth' claim their bodies. So the lyricist is essentially talking about death and how it's the only constant in life.
