this song is written about a girl named Rita, who is separated from her love by force, hence the mention of the gun. contextually this could be referring to the Lebanese civil war or apartheid of Jewish people

Factually wrong on all three counts.

Darwish wrote this about a specific woman. Her name was Tamar Ben-Ami, and she actually was Jewish.
They were separated by the Six Day War specifically.
There is no ‘apartheid’. Discrimination, sure, but Arab citizens in Israel are legally entitled to all protections Jewish ones are. In the West Bank they’re simply not Israeli citizens; Arab Israelis who move into Israeli settlements (which is a rare but possible occurrence, especially in Ariel) there are on par with Jewish ones who do.
The Occupation is Israel, not ‘Jewish’. Plenty of Jews (depending on your definition, most, actually) do not live in Israel, and there are plenty of non-Jews in the military (most notably Druze, Bedouins, and Former Soviets), including in combatant units.

You should rewrite those translator’s notes from scratch. And also format your footnotes properly while you’re at it.
