Я поэтому перевела это как “void”, пустота, одиночество на острове.
Nice job making sense of this. I gave up on the second stanza:

What are the Hungarian secret services playing at?

Yeah, great idea to remove any trace of punctuation and split the sentence halfway. Next step would be to delete 15% of the letters at random.
Sometimes, it is just best to translate line by line without getting too deep at first, and then get back and add more nuances. I was like “Oh, it’s pretty straight forward!” until it became a little bit weir. I hope it still reads OK.
It does. More than the original, actually. Plus the guy sounds like he hit his thumb while hammering nails :)
