השר משה מונטיפיורי

וכשהיה השר מונטיפיורי בן שמונים
אז באו לביתו המלאכים הלבנים
עמדו על מיטתו וכך אמרו אליו:
"הקדוש ברוך הוא רוצה אותך אליו"
 
וכך ענה השר מונטיפיורי בדיוק:
"סלחו לי רבותי, אך באמת אני עסוק
כי יש הרבה צרות לאחינו בעולם
הנה פוגרום ברוסיה, איך לא אבוא אצלם?
כי מי אם לא אני יעזור פה לכולם?"
 
והוא עלה למרכבה ו"דיו" לסוסים אמר

ולכל היהודים שמחה וגאווה
וכל הכבוד לשר, וכל הכבוד לשר!
 
וכשהיה השר מונטיפיורי בן תשעים
אמרו לו: "תעלה, כי שם למעלה מבקשים"
שאל אותם השר: "הגידו איך אוכל?
איך עלילת הדם בדמשק תבוטל?
 
הלא צריך ללכת לפחה הנבזה,
להגיד לו: תתבייש איך מרשים דבר כזה
