Thank you very much Pierre, you express exactly what I feel! But I can't imagine that there could be even the slightest chance to overlook Wolfgang's translations. I often hear a good song, want to translate it, but then see that Wolfgang had done it so well that it cannot be done better. And what is more astonishing: He has translated more than 7.700 of these songs until now... 👍

I obviously can't express any opinions on the translation, but I was wondering the exact same thing about this South lyric when I was translating the song to Greek. You see, Muse's songs are full of such references, so it most likely has a deeper meaning.

I assumed they had picked South for a reason, and this idea of mankind tampering with nature and ruining it seemed to match the theme of the song. What do you think?

I'm not sure, but maybe this line refers to an imminent shortage of drinking water in the future.
At 'songfacts' (> https://www.songfacts.com/facts/muse/explorers) you can read for example:
"....I'm singing about my views on property rights. The idea that corporations can own vast tracts of foreign countries. I'm not sure if the deal went through but, I think it was in Paraguay or Uruguay, the Bush family bought something like a million acres of land which underneath contains the biggest natural water reservoir in South America."
