Cerita Kedai Kopi

Terlalu banyak kena kopi aku menyanyi
Ditemani teko berasap dan bau wangi
Ditemani cahaya malap dan lagu reggae
Hayati Salam

Masing-masing ada masalah sendiri
Masalah dunia masalah peribadi
Luahkan jangan simpan dalam hati
Boleh cerita di kedai kopi

Cerita kedai kopi
Cerita kedai kopi
Tiada hakim tiada saksi
Cerita sensasi di kedai kopi

Cerita kedai kopi
Cerita kedai kopi
Tiada hakim tiada saksi
Cerita sensasi di kedai kopi

Ada satu hero Melayu namanya rahsia
Dulu lepak tepi parit kampung
Sekarang lepak media massa

Asal boleh masuk TV dia mesti buat
Awek tengok jambu laki tengok meluat
Citarasa makin besar otak makin ketat
Baru angkat berat sikit baju pun dah sendat
Jalan berkepak dengan awek romantis
Biasalah budak baru nak naik jadi artis
Jalan berkepak dengan awek romantis
Biasalah budak baru nak naik jadi artis
Jakun ke pelakon jamban ke makan malam
Dinner show menyanyi seorang pun tak faham
Tapi datin muda tengok geram dan sangkut
Datuk outstation apa lagi angkut

I'm in the mood for love
Simply because you're near me
Honey but when you're near me
Well I'm in the mood yes
I'm in the mood for love

Terima kasih rahsia diterima
Kalau sunyi lagi boleh main gila
Datin kena taruk rahsia kemaruk
Makan boleh tapi jangan sampai kena lauk
Datuk pergi London lama pucat bila balik
Bini buncit sikit tahu dia tak boleh naik
Datuk pergi London dia pucat bila balik
Bini dan anak percuma dah ada penyakit
Apa kesudahannya apa yang terjadi
Rahsia tinggal rahsia takkan masuk TV lagi
Cerita sensasi dengar di kedai kopi
Setiap individu punya versi sendiri

Masing-masing ada masalah sendiri
Masalah dunia masalah peribadi
Luahkan jangan simpan dalam hati
Boleh cerita di kedai kopi

Ditemani teko berasap dan bau wangi
Ditemani cahaya malap dan lagu reggae
Hayati rentak keluarga Marley
Hamba di Belanda di tengah ibu kota
Temanku Salam dreadlocks bawah mahkota
Anak perantauan yang punya citarasa Jamaica
Rindu nak dengar cerita kopi Malaysia
Aku cerita dia ketawa
Tak kering gusi jatuh kerusi
Dia pula bercerita tapi bukan tentang dia atau dia
Di Eropah orang bentang idea
Topik-topik intelektual di diskusi
Anjakan paradigma bila kena kopi
Peace love and harmony reggae sampai pagi
Keluar kedai kopi Amsterdam masih steady

Coffee Shop Stories

Whenever I drink too much coffee, I sing
Accompanied by a steaming kettle and a good smell
Accompanied by dim light and reggae songs
That's life, Salam

Everyone has their own problems
Global issues, personal issues
Spill it all, don't keep it all to yourself
You can tell stories at a coffee shop

Coffee shop stories 1
Coffee shop stories
No judges, no witnesses
Sensational stories at the coffee shop

There once was a Malay hero, his name was Secrecy
In the past, he hung out by the village ditch
Now hangs out in the mass media

If it gets him on TV, he's sure to do it
Girls look at weak men2 and look disgusted
My taste gets bigger and my brain goes tighter
Just lifting a little weight makes my clothes tighter
Walking around with a romantic girl
That's how it is for a boy who wants to become an artist
Walking around with a romantic girl
That's how it is for a boy who wants to become an artist
Savage3 from the toilet actor4 to night dinners
Sings at the dinner show, and no one understands him5
But the young Datin5 looks frustrated and stuck
Datuk6 outstation, whatever else he's carrying

Thank you for accepting my secret
If I keep it quiet, I'll go nuts
Madam got stuck with a secret, obsessed
You can eat, but don’t let yourself get eaten by the dish7
The Datuk went to London, and was pale when he came back
His wife had a little belly too her, knew she couldn’t get up
The Datuk went to London, pale when he came back
His wife and child for free already had a sickness
What’s the ending, what actually happened?
A secret stays a secret, it won’t get on TV anymore
Sensational stories heard at the coffee shop
Everyone has their own version of the series of events8

Whenever I drink too much coffee, I sing
Accompanied by a steaming kettle and a good smell
Accompanied by dim light and reggae songs
Feel the rhythm of the Marley family
A servant in Holland9, in the middle of the capital city
My friend Salam with dreadlocks under his crown
A third culture kid with a taste for Jamaica
Misses hearing coffee shop stories back in Malaysia
I tell a story, he laughs
Can’t stop laughing, falls off his chair
Then he tells a story, but it’s not about him or him 10
In Europe people lay out ideas
Intellectual topics in discussion
Paradigm shifts when you’ve had coffee
Peace love and harmony reggae until morning
Leaving the Amsterdam coffee shop still steady

  • 1. Maybe "Stories at a Coffee Shop" is better, but I like "Coffee shop stories" more
  • 2. "jambu" literally means "rose-apple", but in slang, it basically translates to "twink"
  • 3. Jakun is a term that refers to aboriginal Malaysians, I'd say its a very old term since it refers to our aboriginals in a negative way
  • 4. I’m not so sure either
  • 5. a. b. Basicaly too avant-garde to be understood
  • 6. Datuk is the Malaysian equivalent of a knighted person, or a "Sir"
  • 7. i don't know how to translate this into english so I balled it.
  • 8. this whole verse is very puzzling to me to translate, please take it with a grain of salt
  • 9. the "scene" of the song is changed to Europe
  • 10. not gossip
