This is not a word for word translation, but I tried to capture the spirit of the song.
The music of this " joropo" (a musical style from the plains) was composed by Pedro Elías Gutiérrez. Rafael Bolívar Coronado wrote the lyrics. It was part of a "zarzuela" (a musical) with the same title.
