The 16th edition of the Melody of the Year TV song contest was held either in January or February 1983. Information about this edition – besides the participating songs, the winner and the LP record – is close to none, at least online. I couldn't find any TV recording of it, nor any details about how, where and when it was broadcast. Once I find out more details, I'll update the collection accordingly. Meanwhile, if anyone stumbling across this collection knows anything about it, please let me know.

12 songs competed to be elected as the song of the year 1982. Each of them was already chosen as the song of the corresponding month by radio listeners. As usual, the state-owned Balkanton record company released an LP with the songs (BTA 11040) – this collection follows its tracklist, and each song's order corresponds to the month it was chosen as the melody of.

The winning song of this edition – selected both by the jury and the TV viewers – is Телефонна любов ("Phone Love") by Vasil Naydenov.
