Kua Iti Te Marama

Kua iti te Marama i te po poiri,
Toku tiaki'anga rai ia koe.

Kua pati au rai ia koe e ine
Aere mai ka aere taua ki te ura.

Moumou i to manea,
E to ei tiare,
Tei rakei ia ki runga i to tino.

Translation

The Moon Arose

The moon arose in the dead of night1
As I waited for you.

I asked for you, my love.
Come, and we'll go to the dance.

You squander your beauty
And your tiare2
Which you wear around your body.
