لا تسألوني

لا تسألوني ما اسمهُ حبيبي
أخشى عليكمْ ضوعةَ الطيوبِ
والله.. لو بُحتُ بأيِّ حرفٍ
تكدَّسَ الليلكُ في الدروبِ
 
ترونَهُ في ضحكةِ السواقي
في رفَّةِ الفراشةِ اللعوبِ
في البحرِ، في تنفّسِ المراعي
وفي غناءِ كلِّ عندليبِ
 
في أدمعِ الشتاءِ حينَ يبكي
وفي عطاءِ الديمةِ السكوبِ
محاسنٌ.. لا ضمّها كتابٌ
ولا ادّعتها ريشةُ الأديبِ
 
لا تسألوني ما اسمهُ
كفاكم
فلن أبوح باسمه
حبيبي

Do Not Ask Me

Do not ask me about his name,
For I fear a flood of all that is sweet.
By God, if I revealed but one letter,
Lilacs would fill the roadways.
 
You see him in the laughter of streams,
In the fluttering of a playful butterfly,
In the ocean, in the exhale of the meadows,
And in the song of every hummingbird.
 
In the tears of winter when it cries,
In the generosity of the pouring rain.
Qualities, which a book has never contained,
Nor has a poet's feather claimed.
 
Do not ask me his name,
Enough of that,
For I will never reveal it.
