The Last Shall Be the First

When marching without other purpose
No more past, tomorrow broken down
In the cold nothing of the street

When the words no longer exist
When hope is forgotten, dissolute
When the alcohol doesn't even make me drunk any more1
Remain the tormented sentences
Of the phrases that are being thrown away before giving up

And the last shall be the first
In the other reality
We will be the princes of eternity

A ticket on the side walk
In a newspaper of other stories
A random ray of sun

An abandoned flower
That others have left behind2
Not new enough, not enough
When your place is on the outside
Remains nothing but these phrases like treasure islands

An abandoned flower
And the last shall be the first
In the other reality
We will be the princes of eternity

  • 1. This sentence can also be: "When even alcohol doesn't (can't) get me drunk any more"
  • 2. Or "put aside"

Hi, I hope you won't mind me making a few suggestions :)

'Plus de passé': 'No more past'

'Quand l'espérance oubliée, dissolue': 'When hope is forgotten, dissolute'

'Quand les alcools même ne saoulent plus': I would have said 'When even alcohol doesn't (can't) get me drunk anymore', but your version is correct too.

'Restent les phrases écorchées': 'écorché' is stronger than just 'scratched', so I'd suggest 'Remain the tormented phrases (sentences)'.

'Dans l'autre realite': 'In the/that other reality'

'We will be princes of the eternity': 'We will be the princes of eternity'

'A ray of sun randomly': 'A random ray of sun', maybe?

'Ce que les autres ont laissé de côté: 'That others have left behind/put aside'

'Nothing rests but these phrases like islands with treasures': 'Remains nothing but these phrases like treasure islands'?

Hey, crimson_antics!

It's an honor to have you comment here, since I don't speak French very much I was (and still am) afraid I made any mistakes in my older translations. Since you're a native French speaker, I accept all your suggestions. :)

I'll update my translation now.

Thank you so much for commenting!!

You're most welcome, it's always a pleasure to help ^^
I can take a look at your older translations too, if you want. :)
