ثورة الشك

أكاد أشكُّ في نفسي لأني أكادُ أشكُّ فيكَ وأنتَ منّي
 
يقولُ الناسُ إنّك خنتَ عهدي ولم تحفظْ هوايَ ولم تصنّي
 
وأنتَ مُناي أجمعها مشتْ بي إليكَ خُطى الشّبابِ المُطمئنِّ
 
يُكذِّبُ فيك كلَّ الناسِ قلبي وتسمعُ فيك كلَّ الناسِ أُذني
 
وكمْ طافتْ عليَّ ظلالُ شكٍّ أقضّت مضجعي واستعبدتني
 
كأنّي طافَ بي رَكبُ الليالي يُحدِّثُ عنك في الدنيا وعنّي
 
على أني أُغالطُ فيك سمعي وتُبصر فيك غيرَ الشكِّ عيني
 
وما أنا بالمُصدِّق فيك قولاً ولكنّي شقيتُ بحُسنِ ظنّي
 
و بي ممّا يُساوِرُني كثيرٌ من الشَّجنِ المؤرّقِ لا تدعني
 
تُعذَّبُ في لهيبِ الشكِّ روحي وتَشقى بالظنونِ وبالتمنّي
 
أجبني إذ سألتُك هل صحيحٌ حديثُ الناسِ خُنتَ ألمْ تَخنـّي
 
أكادُ أشكُّ في نفسي لأنّي أكادُ أشكُّ فيك وأنتَ مني
 
يقولُ الناسُ إنك خنت عهدي و لم تحفظْ هواي ولم تَصُنّي
 
وأنت مُنايَ أَجمعُها مَشتْ بي إليك خُطى الشّبابِ المُطمئنّ
 
English
Translation

thawrat al-shakk

I almost doubt myself, because
I almost doubt you, and you are part of me.
 
People say that you have betrayed your oath to me
that you do not keep or cherish my love
but you are my whole fate towards whom
my youthful calming steps led me.
 
Everyone tries to turn my heart against you,
everyone speaks nothing but ill of you.
How often the clouds of doubt have hovered over me,
depriving me of sleep and enslaving me.
 
I feel as if surrounded by the night-time crowds
speaking ill of you, and of me.
Saying how I choose not to hear the truth,
and how I refuse to see you for what you are.
 
I don’t believe a word of what the gossips say,
but I am at the end of my tether
 
And I am often overwhelmed by
a cloud of deep sorrow which will not leave me.
My soul is being tortured in the fire of doubt,
as I try to cling on to my thoughts and hopes.
 
Tell me, if I ask you, is it true
what everyone is saying
have you betrayed me or not?
