Telk Qadeya (That is a Cause)

They rescue the sea turtles,
Yet slaughter human animals.
But this is one issue, and that’s another.

How to become a beacon of purity?
Carry the weight of a fractured conscience,
Champion freedom's cause,
Quash the aspirations of liberation,
Let compassion and tenderness flow,
Yet measure the grief by nationality.
But this is one issue, and that’s another.

How to embody civility?
Adhere to every clause and provision,
Infuse righteousness into every word,
Embrace trees within your protective arms,
Adorn titles and names with sweetness,
While an army razes a nearby school,
And when caught in the act, stained with blood,
Declare everyone a victim.
But this is one issue, and that’s another.

How can I trust this world?
When it speaks of humanity?
Witnessing a mother mourn her child,
Lost in a raid, famished,
Equating the killer with the killed,
With unblemished honesty and justice.
But this is one issue, and that’s another.

How can I rest in peace,
Blocking out the world's cacophony,
While a family lies buried beneath the ruins of its abode,
Abandoned, rescue denied,
As if the soil entombing them
Is not part of this earthly realm.
But this is one issue, and that’s another.

How to endure existence in an expansive prison,
With bars forged from fire and ashes,
Rise from the debris,
Seize your assailant by the throat,
Gather your remnants and resist,
Reveal to the deceptive world
The imposition of the law of the jungle,
Where lies the path to freedom
How to take on a tank barehanded

The world's outcry holds no sway,
Choose death with dignity, Reject a life of subjugation,
Ignite inspiration for generations to come,
Learn how to live and die for a purpose.

For what world do we cry out,
To censure and decry?
Censure as you may,
Yet any condemnation of the crimes in the slaughterhouse
Won't dilute the potency of the powder's charge,
Nor resurrect the lost daylight.
For this’s one issue…
And that’s an honorable struggle…
