Die Grenzwacht hielt im Osten, dem Feinde lange stand,
Heut kehrt ihr letzter Posten, zurück ins Vaterland.

Translation
The border watch held in the East
The border watch held in the East, long against the enemy,
Today their last post returns, back to the fatherland.
Weary and decimated, in true knighthood,
The best have stayed, us others lacked the strength.
But we bring the banner, that waved before us in battle,
From Riga’s bloody plain, in all its honour.
The battle-scarred flag never, bows for an enemy,
And today and always, points the way East.
It rushes forth to admonish, its forefather’s spirit,
Despite all misery and hardship, the German future calls.
Have we also become strangers, you brothers of the Reich,
From West and South and North, the banner stays the same.
