Aikawa Eri (born: April 29, 1972) was an idol singer active in late 1980s. In 1987, she participated an idol audition program sponsored by Lotte called "Lotte CM: Idol wa kimi da!"and became the winner. (*This audition has been held four times from 1986-1989. The first year winner was Tachibana Risa, and among the 20 applicants to reach final round, there was Suzuki Sachiko (before she met her soulmate: Aida Shoko and formed Wink). Aikawa Eri won the second year audition). She made her official debut as idol singer on April 20, 1988. At the end of the year, she won newcomer award in "Japan Record Awards".

Like a lot of other idols in her time, Aikawa Eri also went to Horikoshi High School, a high school that had a lot of idols and celebrity students. Among her idol classmates there were Tamura Eriko, Takaoka Saki, Kunizane Yuri, Kodaka Emi, Tanaka Ritsuko. Her close friends among fellow idols were Fujitani Miki, Kitaoka Yumeko and Asada Hanako. 

 

About this song

Released on April 20, 1988 as her debut song, this song reached #12 on Oricon chart and sold 39,380 copies, which is her highest selling song.

In her career, she has released a total of 6 singles and 2 original albums. Her total song sales (all singles + all albums) are about 138,020 copies. As for her acting career, she has appeared in 19 dramas (1988-1995) and 1 movie (1989).

 

Her representative work is the drama series: "Sasurai Keiji Ryojohen" (1988-1995)



^ (0:26) Aikawa Eri appeared in all 7 seasons playing as the main character's sister. Kacchan of Shonentai was also part of the casts. In season 4, Kawai Naoko and Watanabe Minayo were also among the cast members. 

1995 was also the last year Aikawa Eri appeared in drama.

Unfortunately there's no picture or video that shows what she looks like now. Aikawa Eri retired from entertainment at some point,  nobody knows exactly when. There was a false rumor of her got married to a baseball player but turned out it was just a non-celebrity woman with similar name.

Eri!! She was my first idol that I uploaded lol, I mainly did that because I found the idea of AB Complex interesting, but I ended up prefering this song over AB Complex, it's catchier imo

Also a cute episode is her linking her friends blood types to AB Complex! But I think its funnier that they had to shelf it for a moment because it turned out that Eri didn't have AB bloodtype ^^". Still the song did get popular and I think it was with that one that she won the newcomer award

About the Lotte CM audition, its brief run it actually managed to host 14 idols (*not including people that would become actresses), 3 of wich later entered into a group, one of them being Sacchin ^^

lol. After "class'83" idols, Pansy, Sunday's, and all those early 1980s idols, now it's late 1980s idols / Tomomi friends all come to LT. 😆

But it's funny that she didn't know her own blood type, she thought it was AB but after the test it was O. 😅

She said her and her best friends: Kikuu-chan, Fujitani Miki and one other girl each has different blood type. 

And it's not just award from random small event, it was from "Japan Record Awards". Each of these late 1980s B-class idols  has solid background, from winning some kind of audition to winning newcomer awards. 

 

It's strange to imagine Sacchin that still hadn't met Shoko. In 1986, Aida Shoko still had short hair and sang in street audition. 😅 At that same year, Sukeban Deka 2 and 3 we're airing, Onyanko saw a lot of first generation members "graduated" one by one, Oginome just made her breakthrough and got her first Kohaku with a certain ponytail idol as the captain. A certain "queen" just returned from her hiatus while the other "queen" released her "Desire". Hidemi, Yuu, Saito Yuki, Kokusho Sayuri, Morio Yumi celebrated the "coming of age day". "Yan Yan Uta Studio" had their 10th anniversary without knowing their show would end soon.

They said Hatada Rie was known to look like a doll. She just proved it. 😆  And Aikawa Eri was actually quite tall (163 cm, the same as Kudo Shizuka) while Hatada Rie was 155 cm (the same as Tomomi).

Yes, the wikipedia makes her sound like some skillful mastermind that linked her private and work life 😆

They had the right cards, yet they didn't find that "much" success, but still if you look at it they were popular, just they couldn't achieve the sales of older generations. Thats why popularity is hard to gauge, but it makes Chisatos and Winks achievement look all the more impressive (same with Eriko Tamura)

If you wanna dig deeper, Mami was applying for the HoriPro talent Scout, the Emi-chans became Poppins, Kimmiee probably graduated from college, Yukko had just Kuchibiru Network, Micchon was getting her first hits and singing while flying with Naoko Kawai, Yoshimi was singing the Touch songs

Right, I think she could've even been a Kohaku candidate, she did have a lot of consecutive hits, plus she clearly had the media coverage since she appears anywhere and everywhere

She truly did, just look at her, I think its mainly her big eyes and round face. But Mami may have thought that she was too tall for an idol, but A lot of idols were tall 😆

Yeah, and there's still more to come. 😆 And before them, we got mid '80s idols: Shonentai and Shojotai. 

 

Still there's a stark contrast, the fact that even the lowest tier A-class idols could match B-class entire sales in their career with just one song alone. Above them, there's mid tier "A" like Hayami Yuu and friends. And then the highest top ceiling of normal "A" like Oginome and Shonentai. The gap was too big between "A" and "B".

 

Tamura Eriko has decent stats for winter period, clearly above normal "B". But according to wikipedia, when Tamura Eriko met Aikawa Eri at Horikoshi, they became so chatty in the class that the teacher scolded them. 😅 Aikawa Eri was called the "general" by her Horikoshi classmates and Kunizane Yuri was the "mother figure" among them. 😅

 

1986 was also the year when a certain Nori-P came out with her Nori-P language. But I forgot that 1986 was the year when the poor Sato Kayo passed. Endo Yasuko too. 

 

And one year later, it was the idol Hawaii vacation in 1987. I just found rare videos. Let's take a peek at their world in 1987.

Yeah, I also agreed when I read about how she was said to have doll-like beauty in wikipedia when I did her segment. But it's different type of doll from certain marionettes pair who didn't smile (*except when they broke their characters and laughed when they saw something funny behind the camera. When one laughed, the other would follow. And then they went back to poker face again like nothing happened. 😅) 

 

 

I couldn't find Aikawa Eri recent picture but I might have accidentally found someone else. This was from 2013. It was said to be reunion of ex-idols (couldn't be exclusively 1980s idols because some of them looked too young).

True, but when compared to one single idols and smaller idols, they suddenly seem like big, big idols, but still they deserved better, especially Mami, Miki, Itochi etc ect

The general? What did Eri do, maybe there was a reason why the wiki said that she "skillfuly linked public and private life", and Yuri was their mom ^^". But it's nice to see that idols still lived a life akin to that of normal teens their age, chatting, getting scolded, having fun... Hiroko Yakushimaru actually made sure to have fun in her youth! It's a nice story

Maybe, but she has a lot of nice songs actually, maybe she was getting blocked by bigger idols, or maybe she suffered a bit because she debuted in the middle of the idol boom (1985), I think she could've been a top idols if she maybe debuted earlier or if she wasn't getting stuck in the top 10

I think she might be that person, after all, theres Risa, theres Yuko, it wouldn't be crazy to think that they invited her, but that baby looks so cute!!

The group didn't sell but they still formed 7 sub-units? That's surely interesting. (；´∀｀)

 

Yeah, there's also significant gaps between "B" and "B-" and "C". Late 1980s somehow had a lot of decent "B" class idols, their stats also look similar. I'd love to see the likes of Ito Miki, Itochi, Yamase Mami, etc could have at least 1 M+ sales, and 2-3 M+ sales for the likes of Tachibana Risa (supposed she could continue her Oricon #2 streak). I mean, stats aside, they were not inferior to top idols in other aspects.

 

Maybe she was their "leader" or something. lol. That must be nice to still be able to experience normal teenage life amid their killer schedule. But that was surprising to hear, with both her singing and acting careers, I thought Yakushimaru Hiroko barely had time to even breathe.

There's only that one panel, no other angle to compare, but I think she looks like that when she smiles. Tomomi and this certain person were both in Momoco Club, they might know each other. I'm waiting to see her appear in Tomomi's blog someday.   ૮₍ ˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶ ₎ა

They really do have similar stats, Miki, Yuko, Rie, Mami, Risa (they all had short names ^^"), similar positions and the like. Then there were BaBe, Chisato and Wink stood out

Yes, a director made sure that she lived a normal college and High School life, she made friends, hanged out, commuted to and from school

Yea, the record was one of her albums, I think the one that had numbers and letters in it, I've yet to listen to it but its Akina, I'm sure its going to be fire

I think that their smiles are the same, plus there are too many people connected to her, it must be her!!
