Heterosexualist

As if I sipped on bitter wine,
As if the pose was bright and gaudy,
Under a drunken blur
Occurred a dream of Her,1
As if the rose was drugged and fallen.

Oh yes I love, oh yes, I love,
This is the subject of my songs,
No need to sing of other things-
Just wait, we’ll later sing those things.
And yes I love, and yes I love,
This feeling can’t be overcome,2
I’m an optimist, an optimist,
A heterosexualist.

I’m taken by the hand through dark
By happy, melancholy feelings,
And when she wields the whip
Her name is on my lips-
I’ll never tire of my singing.3

Oh yes I love, oh yes, I love,
This is the subject of my songs,
No need to sing of other things-
Just wait, we’ll later sing those things.
And yes I love, and yes I love,
This feeling can’t be overcome,
I’m an optimist, an optimist,
A heterosexualist.

  • 1. Dream as in goal
  • 2. Literally "And I can't resist"
  • 3. The original last three lines are more literally "Even if the whip is cruel/I'm not tired of singing/Her shabby name." Unfortunately I had to leave some things out to fit the rhyme and rhythm. I'm open to suggestions on how to make this less optimistic.

>As if the rose was drugged and fallen.
I think, he talks about anesthesia (rose is under anesthesia)
