Little Carnation Girl

Little carnation girl, little carnation girl,
hey you caressed lamb, hey little girl.

You praised yourself, you praised yourself,
hey you caressed lamb, hey little girl.

You don't wear carnations, yet you smell of carnations,
hey you caressed lamb, hey little girl.

- I was in the garden, walked over carnations,
hey you caressed lamb, hey little girl.

I walked over carnations, thus the scent,
hey you caressed lamb, hey little girl.

- Little carnation girl, little carnation girl,
hey you caressed lamb, hey little girl.

You praised yourself, you praised yourself,
hey you caressed lamb, hey little girl.

- You don't drink rakia, yet you smell of rakia,
hey you caressed lamb, hey little girl.

- I was making winter preserves and used rakia,
hey you caressed lamb, hey little girl.

I used rakia, thus the scent,
hey you caressed lamb, hey little girl.

The reason why one mean clove and other one carnation might be because in turkish the word “karanfil” (farsi rooted) was used for both. Perhaps when Macedonia was under the Ottoman empire the word was borrowed and “Каранфилче”-“Каранфил” were used interchangeably?

I’m speculating without thorough knowledge in Macedonian though.
