*This expression, literally something like 'I would place you atop my shoulders' is an expression that can mean, I would give the world to you, or I place you above everything that I am.
**The idea here is quite beautiful. Though the path, or indeed life has caused the poet many wounds, it was the pain wrought by love which is what gave him the strength to come towards his Beloved. True love, in its attainment, even in the suffering caused by it, it renders all else doable, and is the greatest source of strength. Everything pales beneath it and so, it is the greatest source of strength.
This translation, aside the fact that it is imperfect, barely scratches the surface of the poems meaning. The translation should provide a framework of meaning, at best.
