Ishikawa Hitomi (born: September 20, 1959), nickname: Hit-chan, was a top idol in late 1970s. In 1972 when she was a 6th grade elementary school kid, she appeared on TV for the first time singing Minami Saori song; it was a TV program where the audience (mostly kids) could participate to sing, some of the kids participated in it would later became idols. In 1976, she was offered to join an audition by an agency and passed. Ishikawa Hitomi made her debut as idol singer in May 25, 1978.
Since her debut, she was known for her good looks and her singing ability. But after releasing 10 singles, none of it became a big hit. Her second single sold 62,000 copies and the rest were sold less than 30k each. Three years had passed when she was about to released her 11th single. It was a cover of someone's song from 1976. Before her debut, she persuaded her parents to let her try to be a singer for four years, the deadline was close. She thought if this song flopped again, she would have no regret to retire with this song.
Released in April 21, 1981, this song reached 6th in Oricon chart and sold 397,000 copies. That is her only song to reach top 10 in Oricon chart and her highest selling song far exceed her other songs (*she has two songs with 60k sales, and the rest are 30k or less). This song brought her to her one and only performance in Kohaku Uta Gassen 1981.
Unfortunately, life isn't a fairy tale. After this song, the sales of her next singles returned to her old stats. At least she has experienced being a top idol for one year, appeared back and forth in programs like "The Best Ten" and "The Top Ten", winning award, and most importantly, performed in Kohaku Uta Gassen.
As a singer, she has released a total of 28 singles (1978 - 2006) and 10 original albums. There's no information about her total sales. She has performed one time in Kohaku Uta Gassen 1981. She also has acting career in which she appeared in 4 dramas (1985 - 1991). She was also a regular in quite some reality shows.
Ishikawa Hitomi was also known for voicing the puppet show: "Purin Purin Monogatari"
She was also known as the host of the music program "Let's Go Young" from 1982 - 1986
