Domenico Modugno and Franco Migliacci wrote this song and Mondugno performed it (with it performed again by a second singer, Johny Dorelli, as was custom at the time) at the eighth Sanremo Music Festival in 1958. The song won the festival that year and went on to win third place in the Eurovision Song Contest for 1958.
