In the air

Air...
In the air...
Desire... for you

It's Sunday and who knows what you're doing
I always see you again there telling me you want me
My desire is great, it is scandalous at this point
There is a pussycat next to me and she doesn't give up on it 1 2

Air, she's still breathing you, you know 3
In the air, I chase you away, but you're still there
Desire, so much desire inside me
A fever coming over me, I feel so sick 4

I just hope no man knocks to my door right now
I would behave like I wouldn't want to behave
My mind is clear, but sometimes sex prevails 5
My pussycat is still there, she doesn't speak but says "yes"

Air, the air is almost missed
In the air there's still the two of us
Desire, damned desire that
comes periodically over me, I feel so sick

I am not an animal
I am a being who loves the one who's not there
The value is always the same:
flesh and soul kneaded without you 6

Air, I'm still breathing you, you know
In the air, I chase you away, but you're still there
Desire, so much desire inside me
A fever coming over me, I feel so sick 4

Air...
In the air...
Desire... for you

A fever coming over me, I feel so sick 4

I am not an animal
I am a being who loves the one who's not there
The value is always the same:
flesh and soul kneaded without you 6

Air, I'm still breathing you, you know
In the air, I chase you away, but you're still there
Desire, so much desire inside me
A fever coming over me, I feel so sick 4

Air...
In the air...

  • 1. This line is deeply allusive. Marcella sings "la mia gatta" that in Italian means "my female cat". This is a clear sexual allusion, an elegant sexual metaphor (at least in Italian), and that's the reason why I decided to use the word "pussycat", also considering the sexually connoted meaning that part of this word has in English slang (even if maybe in English it could not sound as elegant as in Italian)
  • 2. Her pussycat doesn't want to give up on the air, on breathing the air
  • 3. The subject is still the "pussycat" that is breathing in the air the smell of Marcella's lover
  • 4. a. b. c. d. A fever, a frenzy, an excitement (figurative)
  • 5. Literally: "My mind is clear, but sometimes sex is stronger"
  • 6. a. b. This verse is extremely poetic in Italian, moreover it is ambiguous even in Italian
