Peltirumpu

Lastenhuoneen seinät ovat keltaiset
Myös aurinko on keltainen, niin kerrotaan
Oi kunpa pääsisi joskus sitä katsomaan

Lapsi ruinas: "Äiti, osta laatikosta pois
Tuo kaunis lelu", komerosta yhden leikin
jälkeen hautapaikan sai vain

refrain:
Sä olet yksinäinen peltirumpu
Lastenhuoneen komerossa
Vedit käyntiin robotin
Se lähti kävelemään, sä tänne aina jäät
Yksinäinen peltirumpu
Lastenhuoneen komerossa
Vedit käyntiin robotin
Se lähti kävelemään, sä tänne aina jäät

Sä olet kyllästynyt kalman tuoksuun kalseaan
Ja tuikkaat lastenhuoneen nalleverhot palamaan
Oot viimeinkin päässyt aurinkoa katsomaan

Lapsi ruinas: "Äiti osta", komerosta katsot:
Lapsi palaa, ethän sä kosta,
Muttei peltirumpu koskaan syty palamaan

refrain

Translation

Tin drum

Walls of the children's room are yellow
The sun is yellow too,so it's told
Ohh if (I) could see it sometime

The child begged:"Mom,take out of the box
That beautiful toy",out of the closet after one play
Got only a graveyard place

refrain:
You are a lonely tin drum
In the closet of a children's room
You turned on the robot
It started to walk, you will always stay here
Lonely tin drum
In the closet of a children's room
You turned on the robot
It started to walk, you will always stay here

You have gotten tired to the smell of a wintry death
And you put the teddy bear curtains into fire
Finally you have had the chance to see the sun

The child begged:"mom buy it",you look at the closet:
The child is burning, you won't revenge right,
But the tin drum will never set on fire

Hmm, wouldn't "peltirumpu" be more like "tin drum"?

Humm, I have always had the impression that "peltirumpu"(in this song) meant this very primitive, kettle like thing made of plate. But now that I have made little investigation , it seems more probable that it means colorful little children's thing. Especially since the child thought it was beautiful...But you are right, maybe I should change it. It's just that in Finnish tin and plate mean different things,so if someone said "tinarumpu" I assume people would have the wrong impression about it
