About translator
"Avos" - the name of the ship on which the protagonist sailed.
"Avos" - in Russian means "hope for a chance/success in the future." The name of the ship is not accidental - the protagonist hoped that his journey would bring success to Russia and America, and despite many difficulties, he relied on this chance.
So, the song is built on a pun, where the ship simultaneously implies this hope of success.
"Авось" - comes from the phrase "а вось", meaning "in the future." So, "авось" doesn't mean a calculated chance of success, but the fact that no one knows in detail what awaits us in the future, which is why a chance of success is possible even in stalemate situations. For when the future comes, much can change.
