A Poet's Weeping

In Mangueira
When a poet
Dies
Everyone cries
I live without a worry in Mangueira because
I know someone will be there to cry when I die
But weeping in Mangueira
Is so different
It is a weeping without handkerchiefs
That gladdens people
I'll have someone to cry for me
Through the pandeiro or through the tambourine

The pandeiro is a brazilian tunable hand drum very similar to a tambourine, ubiquitous in traditional samba and brazilian popular music
Mangueira is a favela in Rio, home to one of the most successful samba schools (also called Mangueira). Mangueira literally means 'mango tree', the name becoming popular (around 1850-1882) after a chapeau company adopted the name Mangueira due the region's strong mango fruit production, and the similar subsequent naming of one of the first train stations in the region
