Rúnatal
Fé, úr, þurs, oss, reið, kaun, hagall, nauðr, íss, ár, sól, Týr, bjarkan, maðr, lögr, yr, Æsa.
[......]
Veit ék að ék hékk
Vindgameiði á
Nætr alla níu
Geiri undaðr
Ok gefinn Óðni
Sjálfr sjálfum mér
Á þeim á meiði
Er manngi veit
Hvers af rótum renn
Fé, úr, þurs [....]
[.....]
Við hleifi mik sældu
né við hornigi;
nýsta ek niðr,
nam ek upp rúnar,
æpandi nam,
fell ek aftr þaðan
Rúnar munt þú finna
Ok ráðna stafi
Mjög stóra stafi
Mjög stinna stafi
Er fáði fimbulþulr
Ok Gerðu ginnregin
Ok reist hroftur rögna
Fé, úr, þurs [.....]
[......]
Veistu hvé rísta skal? Veistu hvé ráða skal?
Veistu hvé fá skal? Veistu hvé freista skal?
Veistu hvé biðja skal? Veistu hvé blóta skal?
Veistu hvé senda skal? Veistu hvé sóa skal?

Translation
Tally of the Runes
Fé, úr, þurs, oss, reið, kaun, hagall, nauðr, íss, ár, sól, Týr, bjarkan, maðr, lögr, yr, Ása
[......]
I know that I hung
On a wind-battered tree
Nine full nights
Pierced by a spear
And given to Odin
Myself to myself
On that tree
That none knows
Where its roots run.
Fé, úr, þurs [....]
[.....]
No one gave me food
nor any drink;
I peered down,
I took up the runes,
screaming, I took them
and then I fell.
Runes must you find
And the Rune is grasped
The very Great Rune
The very Powerful Rune
Which is colored by Fimbulthul(Mighty Thuler,Odin)
And made by the Sacred Powers
And carved by the Grand Sage(Odin)
Fé, úr, þurs [.....]
[......]
Do you know how to carve them? Do you know how to interpret them?
Do you know how to colour them? Do you know how to test them?
Do you know how to ask them? Do you know how to offer them?
Do you know how to send them? Do you know how to stop them?

The first section are from rune poems that were a recitation of the names and kennings (associations) of the runes. They were presumably used as an aid in memorizing and transmitting the lore. There are three of the old poems known; the Icelandic, the Norwegian, and the Anglo-Saxon: https://web.archive.org/web/19990501094729/http://www.ragweedforge.com/p...
The rest is from Havamal(The Speech of the High One) section known as Runatal(Tally of the Runes) stanzas 138,139,142,144. The "High One" is Odin also referred to by numerous other names and kennings. In this section Odin reveals the mysterious initiation journey and sacrifice of himself to himself which involves being hanged in a tree for nine nights. Recieving neither food nor drink for gaining knowledge of the runes and magical spells.
