Vegurinn til Valhallar - The Way to Valhöll
Svá beit þá sverð
ór siklings hendi
váðir Váfaðar,
sem í vatn brygði;
brǫkuðu broddar,
brotnuðu skildir,
glumruðu gylfringar
í gotna hausum.
Trǫddusk tǫrgur
fyr Týs ok bauga
hjalta harðfótum
hausar Norðmanna;
róma varð í eyju,
ruðu konungar
skírar skjaldborgir
í skatna blóði.
Blendusk við roðnum
und randar himni,
Skǫglar veðr léku
við ský of bauga,
umðu oddláar
í Óðins veðri,
hné mart manna
fyr mækis straumi.
Sǫ́tu þá dǫglingar
með sverð of togin,
með skarða skjǫldu
ok skotnar brynjur,
vasa sá herr
í hugum ok átti
til Valhallar vega.
- Váfaðar:
Váfuðr was one of Odin's many names, meaning something like "wanderer"

Translation
The Way to Valhalla
Then sliced the blade
from the king's hand
through Odin's garments,
as if through water;
points broke,
shields shattered,
swords clanged
in mens' skulls.
Shields were trampled
by Tyr's army
the hard-footed sword hilts
to the heads of the Norwegians:
so raged the battle on the island,
kings reddened [with blood]
and shields bright
with the blood of warriors.
Shades of red mingled
under the brim of the heavens,
The chaos of battle played
against the clouds of shield crests,
Waves of red roared
in Odin's storm,
many men sank to their knees
before the tide of swords.
Then sat the lords
with swords drawn,
with cracked shields
and ruined chainmail,
weakened were the men
in spirit, and they made
their way to Valhalla.

It is virtually impossible to truly replicate old Norse poetry in English, so this is literal to the greatest degree I could manage, but is still a poetic translation.
