Old Romantic

I am 61 years old and live in Northern England with my husband. We don't have any children.

I love handicrafts and can often be found making cards or cross stitching whilst listening to music. When we were younger, my husband and I frequently went fell walking, but as age creeps up, we find it harder to go for long distances. Nevertheless, we mangaed to walk the whole of the Pembrokeshire coast path (over a period of time) and that is now our favourite part of the UK.

We are in the process of moving house, so I will have less time in the immediate future to indulge in my favourite pastimes. The bonus of our new house is that I will have a room just for crafting instead of the dining room table. It will be heaven!

I have always loved good music, whether classical or pop. At school, I studied French, German and Latin, but failed my Latin O Level miserably. Luckily, I passed French and German at A Level, but have not spoken them since, apart from during the occasional holiday.

When Enrique Iglesias released Hero in 2002, I fell in love with the song and bought the album Escape, expecting to perhaps like one or two songs from it. Big mistake! I loved every one and subsequently bought his entire back catalogue. The problem was, most of the songs were in Spanish and I like to know what the words mean. I'll learn Spanish, I thought. So armed with a few grammar books, dictionaries and tapes I proceeded to do so. It was great fun and meant I could sing-a-long with the songs,much to my husband's dismay, as I am tone deaf.

So matters proceeded, with me listening to my favourite singer as often as I could, until Christmas 2012, when my husband bought me Il Divo's Greatest Hits. Another BIG mistake! I already had their Live in Barcelona CD and played it regularly but listening to Llorando and Nella Fantasia made me want more. I therefore bought all their previous albums and DVDs. Again, I wanted to know what the lyrics meant and found this website. As I don't speak Italian, I was very grateful to the translations of the Italian songs and have now learnt the lyrics to most of them. The Spanish songs were easier to learn, but I found that not all of them had translations, so I set about doing them myself. Then I thought, even though they are not perfect, why not share them with those who don't speak any Spanish at all. At least it will give them an idea what the songs are about.

There are two songs in Spanish on the Greatest hits album Solo and I Will Always Love You) and I am trying to translate them, but the words are not written down and I can't make out all of the words. I will keep at it and hopefully will be able to add translations soon.
