Then nobody is "truly" fluent. Even I, a native English speaker, must look up a word in a dictionary from time to time. Nobody can know EVERY word in a language, we simply know the majority of them. I just think you should reconsider how you're judging her, when you list English as your Fluent language. I'm sorry, but if I gave YOU *any* word in English, would you be able to translate it without looking it up? Didn't think so.
Now my German is not advanced enough for me to even consider myself a "good" speaker of it, so I will write in English.
I know Nelly very well, and I speak with her in English very often. Her translation is not at all bad, she has conveyed the meaning very well into German and you, having the nerve to comment on her fluency in English while on your profile you have YOUR fluent language set to English, begs a certain question - who are you to say that her English level is not fluent, when you have no real proof except for a song where she has found a different interpretation to you?
I am a native English speaker, and I can safely say that Nelly's English is at an incredible standard - I'm extremely proud of her and her level of English is amazing for someone of her age.
You have NO right to question if her real mother tongue is German, just because she has found another interpretation to a song. You also have no right to question her English, and as a native English speaker, I find it appalling that you would question her language skills.
I agree completely with bonney. Nelly´s English is very good, even better than mine, (but thats not really a compliment)
Sorry wenn ich mich hier reinhänge, aber zur Interpretation von "Yellow" hier ein paar Zitate aus dem Wikipedia-Eintrag des Songs:
"Martin went on to further explain that the word "yellow" has absolutely no meaning whatsoever..."
"He was thinking of a specific word, which he deemed a missing key word in the lyrics, to fit the song's concept. He looked around the studio and found the telephone directory Yellow Pages, which happened to be situated nearest to him. Martin later titled the song "Yellow" as a reference to the directory. He quipped, "In an alternate universe, this song could be called 'Playboy.'"
"'Yellow' refers to the mood of the band. Brightness and hope and devotion."
"...the song is about devotion, referring to his unrequited love..."
Das sind doch mal hilfreiche Infos.
Ich wusste gar nicht, dass das Lied einen Wikipedia-Eintrag hat.
Nun, angesichts dessen könnte man jetzt gemein sein und zu Katzenfoens Übersetzung sagen:
"Netter Versuch, leider absolut falsch" xP
