Waves of heather, sorrowful hills
What waits ahead... Road, only road
Soon we will pass through the doors of winter
And somehow won't even notice the doorstep
Not much longer to wait now - we'll be covered
By the merciless snow that I'd left behind
And i cannot close my heavy eyelids
And it's clearly no use to reminisce...
Sun heads towards West, the moon rises
It soundlessly sees off the departing day
Heather grows darker, and the wall of the night
Separates us, conceals us, leads us away
Oh, say something! Quickly, answer me!
I am after all but your sorrowfull vagabond
Heather! Tell me, on which day
Have I set foot on this lonely and strange path?
But there is no answer...The hills stayed silent..
Waves of heather stayed silent in sorrow
And in anticipation of imminent winter
They quietly rocked the sky in a starry boat.

I'm very certain that the first verb "не сомкнуть" is not connected to the verb "не стоит". It isn't "И не сомкнуть не стоит, и вспоминать не стоит", it's "И не сомкнуть; и вспоминать не стоит". "Не сомкнуть" on it's own simply means "unable to close". Although my translation of the sentence can perhaps be phrased better... I will try to come up with a better one.

I interpreted this as: "It's no use, evidently, not to close my heavy eyelids and reminisce".
