Эхолов
The Echo Tracker
Ww WwThis is Vyacheslav Butusov's requiem/ode for/to: Sergei Sergeyevich Bodrov (1971-2002), who perished along with a film crew and the inhabitants of a village in the Kolka–Karmadon rock ice slide catastrophe. Their bodies were never recovered even after exhaustive searching (echo hunting). There was hope that there might have been survivors in a tunnel there but it could not be found and no one was recovered. Sergei Bodrov was the son/the progeny of Sergei Bodrov, the director.
1. Эхолов (Echo Tracker/Chaser/Hunter) is a made up word. It has many possible interpretations for meaning, from a mechanical device/vehicle (used in search/recover operations), to a being (a person, a soul) capable of feeling others near.
2. A heart of iron, is one of courage and determination
3. There was once hope that there might be survivors in a tunnel (hole)
Iconic symbolism: (often seen at the feet of religious iconery and art)
On the left, the snake coils to strike (bad, evil and it's intent to sway, darkness)
On the right, the eagle zeros in on me (good, courage, and it's intention to persuade, light)
Below writhing are the fallen (doomed, they who have lost/forsaken figuratively, and they who were entombed below the glacial ice of the slide but never found).
Far above (them) is illumination (enlightenment, both figuratively and actually). The illumination (faces alit) of heaven's influence and the sun's rays of daylight covered over.
*If you have comments please reserve them for PMs. This was a great national tragedy and should be respected so.
