REFRAIN:

REASONING... for the another translation of the song REFRAIN:

Word 'На-деж-да' has 3 syllables, word 'Hope' has only 1 and two notes to fill in.
Whenever we talk about song lyrics we should aline syllables with notes...

Sing or hum to yourself and choose one of the two translations for it:

1. 'Hope is my compass on Earth...'

2. 'My hope is a compass on Earth...'
'My hope is" creatively exchanges places for pronoun 'my' (compare with 1.)

Technical translations are one thing, poetry / lyrics translations are completely different matter.
You practically have to re-create the verses to reflect the Spirit of the original text while matching the rhyme.
We may discuss the subject indefinitely... : )

I think your translation could be polished a bit. I think the songwriter uses Hope (Nadezhda) as a double entendre, referring to both a woman named Hope (Nadezhda) and hope itself. As such, I think Hope should be capitalized throughout, including at the end of the third verse.
