Original lyrics

Reve Ta Stohne Dnip Shypokij -Реве та стогне Днiпр широкий

Реве та стогне Днiпр широкий,
Сердитий вiтер завива,
Додолу верби гне високi,
Горами хвилю пiдiйма.

I блiдий мiсяць на ту пору,
Iз хмари де-де виглядав,
Неначе човен в синiм морi
То виринав, то потопав.

Ще третi пiвнi не спiвали,
Нiхто нiде не гомонiв,
Сичi в гаю перекликались,
Та ясен раз-у-раз скрипiв.

English
Translation

It Roars and groans the Wide Dnipir

It roars and groans the wide Dnipir,
An angry wind there does blow,
Bending the tall willows down so low,
The waves in mountains are lifted up.

And the pale moon at that moment,
Among the clouds, here and there peeks out,
As like a boat upon the blue sea
It does rise and it does fall.

Yet the third roosters have not crowed,
No one, nowhere has made a sound,
The owls in the glen have called to each other,
And the ash tree one after another does creak.

Roosters not roasters. No one, nowhere. As if like a boat. And why the name of the song in the original lyrics has an English t rather then Ukrainian? This is a very special song and should be translated very carefully.

Thanks, I'm very tired it's very late, 3:30 am, already.... the original text had "DA" instead of "TA" ... I don't have Ukie type ... my MAC will make anticipated corrections, I don't catch them all when they are wrong.

I'm having trouble in transferring this address to comments - and make it work - it responds as a mistake

Горами хвилю пiдiйма -- The waves in mountains are lifted up. ???
I always thought it is something like "a mountain of waves would rise"
