Impressive. I don't understand enough Gothic to judge it.

Did you base your translation on another translation, or directly on the OHG text?

Directly on the OHG, but where I didn't fully understand it I used a modern German translation.

A linguist told me that the original might have been of Gothic origin so this might be what the original had looked like.

As far as I know it was probably written in northern Italy by Langobardians (Upper High Germans), and then half-translated into its current form somewhere else. Why yes, of course there could have been an older poem in Gothic that this one is based on. Especially since the main characters are a Gothic soldier who fought under king Theoderich, and his son. But who knows? The story is historically incorrect, so I assume it was written quite some time after the events.

Btw, I found a modern back translation into Langobardian here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-kpRFU7YKY8
(starting at 6:11)

The lyrics page of the Hildebrandslied was split into 2 because one band who covered it had split it like that. I've now merged the entries.

This translation is therefore now incomplete, but I'll leave it published in any case.

It would be great if you could complete it, though, if you have time.
