L'elefante bianco

Corri forte ragazzo, corri
la gente dice sei stato tu
ombre bianche, vecchi poteri
il mondo compran senza pudore
vecchie immagini, santi stupidi
tutto lascian così com'è
guarda avanti non ci pensare
la storia viaggia insieme a te

Corri forte ragazzo corri
la gente dice sei stato tu
prendi tutto non ti fermare
il fuoco brucia la tua virtù
alza il pugno senza tremare
guarda in viso la tua realtà
guarda avanti non ci pensare
la storia viaggia insieme a te

Impara a leggere le cose intorno a te
finché non se ne scoprirà la realtà
districar le regole che
non ci funzionan più per spezzar
poi tutto ciò con radicalità.

Translation

The White Elephant

Run fast boy, run
People say it was you[r fault].
White shadows [and] old powers
Buy the world shamelessly.
Old pictures [and] stupid saints
Leave the world as it is.
Look forward, don't worry about a thing1,
History travels at your side.

Run fast boy, run
People say it was you[r fault].
Take everything [and go], do not stop:
The fire burns your virtue.
Raise your fist without trembling
And face2 your reality.
Look forward, don't worry about a thing1,
History travels at your side.

Learn to read the things that surround you,
Until you find out their real meaning3.
Untangle the rules
That no longer work, to then break
– and eradicate – all of them4.

Learn to read the things that surrounds you, -> ... surround
Until you find out their real meaning3.
Untangles the rules -> Untangle
That no longer work, for breaking
All this – then – radically.

I would rephrase the last two lines into something like "...to eradicate/all this once and for all". Just a suggestion (it wouldn't be "word-for-word", of course).

Thanks for your useful comments. I choose to use both verbs “break” and “eradicate” to translate “rompere con radicalità”. 'Cause I think that “radically breaking something” does not make a lot of sense in English.

Of course, the final choice is yours. Consider, though, changing the second part of the last line into:

"...all of them" (I think it's clear that it refers to the rules and you avoid repeating the word "rules"; leaving "all those" hanging, without the word "rules" to follow would be incorrect).

Actually, doing translations is a good training for me and a way to enrich my lexicon (which, alas, is merely “technical”). I've just updated, thanks again!
