Sore Hands
Click to see the original lyrics (French)
To make yourself useful and to take action
All you have to do is simply fidget.
Be like the people who play, avoiding the knocks
They give themselves while gesticulating incessantly,
Their hands always at arm's length.
Churning the air uselessly
By dint of stirring, stirring
My hands are sore from dragging my feet*
My hands are sore.
I waste my energy, I multiply my efforts
To not be wrong.
Being fake to be better at pretending to be real, that's good.
But it's a lot of work for nothing.
It's a lot of work for nothing and it makes one's hands sore.
By dint of stirring, stirring
My hands are sore from dragging my feet
My hands are sore.
Fidgeting in every way becomes
A kind of sixth sense, that's good.
I multiply the "it doesn't matter"'s
And I give myself a rap on the knuckles.
Putting in a great deal of effort**,
It's great***, but it makes one's hands sore.

Author's comments:
*trainer les pieds = dragging feet, as in reluctant to do something
**faire des pieds et des mains = slang for "putting in effort/working hard" , literally, "doing/making the feet and hands"
***c'est le pied = slang for "it's great", literally, "it's the foot." how punny.
i found another translation you can read if you want!

i write evocative translations rather than precise ones so this might not be "word for word" but at least it will be pretty
