Pratobello
- 1. Some famous outlaws were born in Orgosolo.
- 2. The reference is to the plan of revival (Piano di Rinascita) for which the Italian government had allocated some funds intended for the economic and industrial development of Sardinia. But these funds were seized by a few capitalists who didn’t start any development and offered very few job opportunities.
- 3. Barbagia: the innermost region of Sardinia.
- 4. The institution of the national park of Gennargentu has been opposed for many years by the local population. The inner mountains of Sardinia are scenically beautiful and give home to a particular fauna but are also an essential economic resource for local people. Till today it hasn’t been possible to fully realize this project.
- 5. In the present performance “Agacane” is replaced by “Berluscone” (Silvio Berlusconi).
Nino Rovelli: entrepreneur of the petrochemical industry. After having benefited from facilitated state funding for industrial development, he brought his companies into bankruptcy.
Thanks to political support and corruption of judges, he wasn’t convicted and expatriated in Switzerland, but after his death his guilt was confirmed by the Supreme Court of Cassation.
Angelo Moratti: an oil tycoon and sports manager. His refineries employ a few workers in an industry subject to the crisis of oil production.
Karim Aga Khan: stateless Ismaili prince, founder of the tourism consortium of the Costa Smeralda.

Pratobello, “Beautiful Meadow”, a very poetic name for a wild territory, the battleground of an epic and successful rebellion. It was one of the few free lands survived to the Italian laws that imposed the private ownership in spite of the ancient Sardinian custom of common use of grazing lands.
Orgòsolo is a village hidden among the mountains of Barbagia, the innermost region of Sardinia, a place where time seems to stand still in the days of Hampsicora, the legendary hero who fought against the Roman invasion.
A village where people speak a language so archaic that most Sardinians can’t understand it any more. Where the resistance against the laws imposed by the invaders has never ceased. A proud village where even children are taught not to cry.
At the end of May 1969 on the walls of the village appear posters imposing the shepherds to transfer their cattle elsewhere because for two months the whole area of Pratobello will be a shooting range for the Italian Army.
But soon becomes clear that the grazing grounds are set to become a permanent military area, depriving the village of its main economic resource.
In June begins the mobilization and the whole population occupies peacefully the ground to prevent the conduct of shooting drills. Men, women and children face up the soldiers and talk sharply to them explaining their reasons. So soldiers learn to distrust the officers who had described the villagers as bandits.
In spite of the intervention of police and carabinieri, people are unyielding and their pacific mobilization can finally stop the military occupation of the territory.
Shortly after the Army is forced to retreat and the Italian government must give up its plans.

Wow, so that was the plan all along. Forza Orgosolo!
My suggestions:
Chi a inie fit fachende rota > ... its way ...
Arriban carrarmaos e cannones > only ... arrive (sounds better with a conjunction)
E trupas de masellu > and slaugtering ...
Chi viven de > who live off ...
E dare a sa Sardigna atera via > and lead Sardinia to another way
cumpatos > unanimous
Ch'isetat latte > that ...
e chin sas manos > ... their hands
Ah, those were good old days. Actually the park of Gennargentu has been achieved at last, but much reduced compared to the original design.
Thank you, my translation sounds much better now.
Grazie
