Hi,
the title: "purpureo" is a declining adjective, since it goes to feminine because "pioggia" is a feminine name: pioggia purpurea, or rather «Pioggia Rossa»
(Remember that in Italian adjectives almost always follow the name, just like in French)
Actually "purpureo" or "porpora" is a shade of bright red and a little purple like blood, but in Italian it is not a very common word, it is used mostly for the clothing of the cardinals. It is usually said “rosso” whenever you don't want to specify precisely the shade of red.
