Tu sabes que

Tú sabes que
cuando te miro, se ilumina mi alma entera;
con tu presencia borras todas mis quimeras,
con sólo verte todo cambia para mí...

Tú sabes que
en la distancia, siempre, siempre estás conmigo
y yo, aunque lejos, siempre, siempre estoy contigo,

Translation

You know that

You know that
when I look at you, my entire soul enlightens;
with your presence you erase all my illusions,
just by seeing you, everything in me changes ...

You know that
although distant, you are always, always with me
and I, being far away, I am always, always with you;
I live and breath only for you ...

You know that
what we have, is more than just an 'I love you';
you are my everything and, in my sleepless nights,
my heart beats only for your love.

You know that
without you, my life is a drifting boat;
I must adore you for the rest of my life,
and if there is another life, i will love you, my love.

You know that
your beauty and your smile captivate me,
that just by seeing you, you heal all my wounds,
but that, my love, I know that you already know...

You know that
what we have, is more than just an 'I love you';
you are my everything and, in my sleepless nights,
my heart beats only for your love.

You know that
without you, my life is a drifting boat;
I must adore you for the rest of my life,
and if there is another life, i will love you, my love.

Nice to hear from you, Jami.

AldefinaAldefina    Fri, 07/08/2015 - 13:33

Rosa, I added a video and I don't have any doubts that he sings "quimeras".

Andrzej, I am thinking that, if they say 'quimeras', the verb 'borras' must be wrong. Or does it mean that "con su presencis" there are no more 'ilussions', that everything comes true? Could you listen again?

AldefinaAldefina    Sat, 08/08/2015 - 10:30

Rosa, I hear “quimeras” and in my opinion it fits with “borrar”. I don’t know why you think it must be wrong. I believe that “you erase all my chimeras” makes sense. I would only use “delusions” instead of “chimeras”. For me it means that the lyrical subject tells that when his beloved is by his side the bad thoughts are forgotten.

Other corrections of the lyrics that were needed:

1. In s.1 v.4 it’s “sólo” (missing accent).
2. In s.2 v.4 it’s “solamente” and not “solo”.
3. In s.3 v.4 it’s “sólo palpita” and not “solo palita”.
4. In s.4 v.4 it’s “otra vida” and not “otro”; and “amaré” (missing accent).
5. In s.5 v.3 it’s “sólo” (missing accent).
6. In s.6 v.4 it’s “sólo palpita” and not “solo palita”.
7. In s.4 v.4 it’s “otra vida” and not “otro”; and “amaré” (missing accent).

I made all this corrections and I also added the punctuation. Listen once again and compare. You don’t need to change anything in your translation.

I am surprised I didn't do the editing. I guess I didn't complete the job, since I didn't added the video either.
(I think it needs a couple more commas).

But the "quimeras' are not bad thoughts. Are they?

annabellannaannabellanna    Sat, 08/08/2015 - 11:27

Allow me add my opinion on purpose.
Chimeras are wonderful dreams, but they are only pipe dreams.
Getting lost back to a pipe dream is not good. Anyway they are not "delusions" but"illusions". If you pursue your illusions, you surely will be deluded.
For this reasons they are in any case negative.
She is more beautiful than all his pipe dreams. All his dreams melt facing with her.

Thank you. I used "illusions".

AldefinaAldefina    Sat, 08/08/2015 - 12:07

“Bad thoughts” is of course my interpretation. According to “mis licencias poéticas” I would translate “con tu presencia borras todas mis quimeras” more or less as “when you’re with me (or “when I see you”) all my bad thoughts (or perhaps even better: “doubts”) go away”. As I understand this is what was meant, correct me if I’m wrong.

In Polish we have a word “chimera” (or “chimery” - in plural) and it means something unreal, a delusion. Usually it is used as an adjective meaning that someone is not stable in his thoughts and/or opinions, he changes them being influenced by his emotions, that he’s very capricious. As I understand the same should apply to all languages, because the roots of this word are in the Greek mythology.

And as for additional commas, you can add them, maybe I overlooked something. I’m very exhausted because of the temperatures. For over a month already we’ve been having 35 degrees C or more and today it should be even 41, though at the moment it’s “only” 39. It’s like in Africa and they say for the next two weeks it won’t change. It’s unbelievable, typical summer temperatures are around 25. Even if they are higher than 30, then only for a couple of days.

Anyway, the same happens in the whole Europe. The best place to be now would be Scandinavia - Sweden or Norway, but rather in the northern parts, because few years ago I experienced in the southern part of Sweden 30 degrees and in the northern part of Norway it was only 14.

annabellannaannabellanna    Sat, 08/08/2015 - 12:53

In Italy happens the same...it's hot, very hot... :(

AldefinaAldefina    Sat, 08/08/2015 - 13:20

The worst thing is it’s too hot at home also and I can hardly sleep by these temperatures. It’s like in hell. Why? And no rain at all. The lawn in my garden is already desiccated and watering doesn’t help, because the ground is so dry, that an hour after watering the ground is dry like an ash. We had no snow in winter and almost no rain for at least 9 month.

What you explained, Anna, about “chimeras” seemed to be the same as what you can find in most dictionaries, though I’m not sure whether it fits in this particular song. Usually when I finish translating I read the whole text without comparing it with the original, just to see how it sounds. And here… I don’t know really. It’s up to Rosa to decide. I’m not an expert, I just wrote what I thought. Could be I was wrong.

annabellannaannabellanna    Sat, 08/08/2015 - 14:13

I'm going to tell my ginmick to sleep when it's really TOO hot: I damp my top sheet (if necessary, putting in the water, then squeezing it) before sleeping, hoping to fall asleep before the blanket get dry: it really works! :bigsmile:

AldefinaAldefina    Sat, 08/08/2015 - 14:48

I’m afraid for me it wouldn’t work good enough. It’s also the temperature of the air that I breath in that disturbs me and I have no A/C at home. When we build our house it was not needed and it would be too complicated to install it now - the house is too big. I can only hope that next year we won’t have such disastrous temperatures.

And how hot is it at the moment in Italy?

annabellannaannabellanna    Sat, 08/08/2015 - 23:12

Now by now (centre Italy) max about from 34 to 39... :((

AldefinaAldefina    Sun, 09/08/2015 - 22:24

The same as in Poland. 39 was the maximum, so there's no Polish record, but still it's the highest temperature ever measured in my hometown. They say this may change on Tuesday (again they said 41) :O .
