Thank you Marco, my suggestions
fattu ne arte ne dannu > ... he committed no fraud/crime nor ...
a su toccu 'e sa prima campana > with the first bell / with the ring of the first bell
e l’apo fattu a petta 'ìa > and to rip/tear ...
Su coro tou est distruttu > ... broken
non depìat campare > (is it more like?) he shouldn't ...
mandigat terra ebbìa > (I think this is an idiom hard to translate) who could devour the land / who could chew rocks (or something like that)
Thank you.
For "non depìat campare" I was looking for the past tense of "must" - which doesn't exist. I think "should" can be fine.
Then can also "I had to smash his head" be replaced by "I should smash..." ?
(I've also slightly modified the following clause, perhaps it's clearer now)
And also "the murderer had to > should pay"?
No, "mandigat terra ebbìa" isn't an idiom. As many expressions in this wild song, it just conveys a deep anger.
"I had to" can be past of must but the negative form is "should not", unlike spanish "not to have to" doesn't mean "must not" it means "not obliged to"
"I had to smash his head" "The murderer had to pay" are better, "should pay" means he hasn't payed yet but he ought to pay
Thank you a lot, your explanations are always very helpful :)
Excellent
