"Work hard in silence, let your success be your noise!"
Loved it, it's perfect
Thank you :) Ooh, Italian -- beautiful language.
Wir Sind Helden have quite a few good lyrics. I like this one.
I noticed some little mistakes:
"Es ist verrückt, wie schön du schweigst"
-> "It is crazy how beautiful/pretty/nice you stay silent"
"Spannst die Schnüre und staunst
Stumm wenn"
->
"You tighten the ropes and you're
Sielently surprised/astonished if/when..." ("stumm" still belongs to the sentence of the line before)
"Wenn hinter deinen stillen
Hasenaugen die Gedanken rasen "
->
"(Only) if behind your silent
Eyes-of-a-hare the thoughts are racing."
More english order of words:
"(Only) if the thoughts are racing
behind your silent Eyes-of-a-hare."
And I'd rather say "whenever" or "always when" instead of "only if".
A LONG belated thank you, Sciera hehe. ;)
I've made the changes. Although, I've retained some parts for idiomatic reasons.
great explanations of the lines with a play on words
Some more suggestions:
"It's crazy how you're so quiet" => "It's crazy how you're so wonderfully quiet"
"In awe, you tighten the ropes // It'd be silly if // Some girl fell over it in the night" => "You attach its ropes // And watch in silent bewilderment // When a girl trips over them at night". He fastens the ropes of the tent, and the he is struck speechless if a girl trips over them by night. This is a creative metaphor for "You meet the world with silence, and then you wonder how the more you remain silent/aloof, the more women are attracted to you".
"Zu deinen Füßen red' ich mich // Um Kopf und Kragen." => This metaphor means "I'm so in awe of you, and I tell you all about it, even though it's making me feel silly to be laying all my secrets open in the process."
"Ich will in deine tiefen Wasser // Große Wellen schlagen => This metaphor means "You're somebody who keeps his emotions a secret but I want to make you show them." (You pretty much nailed that with your footnote, I just wanted to make sure the meaning comes across.) Very much like what Alanis Morissette means when she sings "Must be strangely exciting to watch the stoic squirm" in "Uninvited".
BTW one of my favourite German language songs ever, simply because of such creative metaphors and combinations of idioms.
To retain the double meaning (footnote 1), how about:
"If you find your lips are lost for words
Then why not let them find mine?"
