- Hlūde wǣran hȳ lā hlūde ðā hȳ ofer þone hlǣw ridan:
The lyrics of the song are based on an Old English medical text from the 10th century, „Wið færstice”, surviving in the collection known now as Lacnunga in the British Library. According to Felix Grendon, whose collection of Anglo-Saxon charms appeared in the Journal of American Folklore in 1908, “the charm is intended to cure a sudden twinge or stitch, possibly rheumatism that can be due to being shot by witches, elves, and other spirits that fly through the air.”

Spear of the Elves
They were loud, oh, so loud
Those who rode over that mound
They were brave
Those who rode over the land
They were loud, oh, so loud
Those who rode over that mound
They were brave
Those who rode over the land
They were loud, oh, so loud
Those who rode over that mound
They were brave
Those who rode over the land
They were loud, oh, so loud
Those who rode over that mound
They were brave
Those who rode over the land
They rode over the land (rode over the land)
They rode over that (rode over that mound)
Rode over the land
Rode over that mound
Out, little spear
Out, little spear
Out, little spear
Out, little spear
Rode over the land (Out, little spear; don’t sink in, spear)
Out, little spear, if you were to get in here
Rode over the land (Out, little spear; don’t sink in, spear)
Out, little spear, if you were to get in here
Rode over the land (Out, little spear; don’t sink in, spear)
Out, little spear, if you were to get in here
Rode over the land (Out, little spear; don’t sink in, spear)
Out, little spear, if you were to get in here
Rode over the land (Out, little spear; don’t sink in, spear)
Out, little spear, if you were to get in here
Rode over the land (Out, little spear; don’t sink in, spear)
Rode over that mound (Out, little spear, if you were to get in here)
