Phoney

She thought I was James Dean,
born in the USA,
the son of Buffalo Bill,
so she was in awe.

Then again, I wore a checkered shirt,
a guitar dangling on my back
to play the handsome cowboy,
but that was just an act.

She kept speaking English to me
I answered with a couple of phoney words
just bits of songs I had heard.
Total dismay.

She thought I was a race car driver
coming straight from the 24 hours
with my painted helmet,
so she was in awe.

I told her about checkered flags,
nicely controlled skids,
mesmerized fans,
television.

She said "let's have a ride to the sea
in your amazing racing car!"
My old crate won't exceed 50MPH
Total dismay.

I'm not comfortable with myself,
acting the handsome driver
and I just go with my bicycle clip.
I'm a phoney. I'm a phoney.
I'm just a show-off stuffed with aspirin pills
and I just go with my bicycle clip.
I'm a phoney. I'm a phoney.

She thought I was a singer
travelling incognito,
tours, sound systems, hysterical girls
so she was in awe.

Then again, I wore high heels
a girl's rabbit fur coat,
and thin ankle bracelets.
What a show-off.

She said "sing me a song".
I took a couple of pep pills
and massacred "Satisfaction"
Total dismay

I'm not comfortable with myself,
acting the handsome singer
and I just go with my bicycle clip.
I'm a phoney. I'm a phoney.
I'm just a show-off stuffed with aspirin pills
and I just go with my bicycle clip.
I'm a phoney. I'm a phoney.

I live with my granny
behind the gate-keeper's house
and I just go with my bicycle clip.
I'm a phoney. I'm a phoney.

I'm not comfortable with myself,
acting the handsome cowboy
and I just go with my bicycle clip.
I'm a phoney. I'm a phoney.

Just was fun!
Petite faute de frappe - (S4) straigth > straight

Stilts? Not just "high heels"? Or maybe "cuban heels" if that's too feminine?

:)

It's certainly a funny image! Just sounds a bit circus performer :)
We also call them "stilettos" of course

Sure you can't find a solution with -ion ending words ? Because it matters a lot in this song.
Consternation...television.. xxxx
