The day escapes me

The day escapes, and old age dims my eye

My strength has waned, by years of weary strife

My childhood friends, have found their slumber deep

Soon I alone, on earth my walk upkeep

When I was tired, O Father, you let me sleep

I went astray, you brought me back to keep

I felt remorse, my spirits they were low

You sated me, so kindly you consoled

Yet now I wish, if it please my god so

That I may end, my days and years of woe

To just lay down, my tired head to rest

Upon grave-bed, my final tranquil nest

But the soul shall, on this ultimate tour

Rise like a spark, out of the hearth and soar

And free shall seek, its source of light divine

Although the ash, is deep in earthen shrine

Far better is, a single day in Heav'n

Than thousand years, in this waste so foreign

Its morning nigh, I long to see the sun

For not mine, but God's will shall be done
